May marks Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, a celebration that has been observed since 1992. The selection of May for this celebration is significant as it commemorates the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to America on May 7th, 1843. Since then, the contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) individuals to American society have been extensive and impactful.
This May, we encourage you to explore some of the books authored by members of the AAPI community in our collection. Ranging from beloved classics such as Amy Tan's The Joy Luck Club to more recent releases like Yangsze Choo's The Fox Wife, we will be spotlighting books written by AAPI authors across various genres and age groups throughout the month.
