In the tiny town of Troy, Georgia, a practical joke prompts local busy-body Lula Dean to start a book banning crusade. Her efforts pit her directly against with the school board president, who happens to be her greatest enemy, former head cheerleader Beverly Underwood. When Lula starts a little free library full of “Wholesome Books” to combat the notion that she doesn't read, Beverly's daughter swaps the dust jackets of Lula’s books with those of the banned books from the library.
This books is a satire, but it was clearly written by an author with great affection for small towns and their inhabitants. No one is portrayed as evil, and while some of the scenarios are a bit far fetched, it made for very entertaining reading.
Above all, this is a book about how impactful the right book at the right time can be.
